Sembabule, Uganda: President Yoweri Museveni has urged residents of Sembabule District to adopt modern farming practices, irrigation, and the Four-Acre Model to drive wealth creation and shield themselves against drought-induced losses.
Addressing a public rally on Sunday, April 27, at Sembabule Playground in Sembabule Town Council, the President emphasized the importance of preparedness, advising farmers to embrace irrigation systems and plant pasture to ensure a stable supply of milk and food throughout the year.
“You must prepare for dry seasons by adopting irrigation and planting pasture for your animals. This way, Uganda can maintain consistent agricultural production for both local and international markets,” Mr Museveni said.
He encouraged small landholders to utilize the Four-Acre Model effectively: one acre for coffee, another for fruits, a third for pasture for animals, and a fourth for food crops for home consumption. “Even farmers with small pieces of land can become rich if they use their land wisely,” Museveni noted, adding that those with larger landholdings could engage in more extensive farming ventures.
The President praised Hon. Shartsi Musherure Kutesa, the MP for Mawogola North, for championing the message of wealth creation among her constituents, describing it as the true role of a responsible leader. “Politics is not about giving out coins to voters but empowering people to sustainably improve their lives.”
Museveni expressed satisfaction that some residents had already embraced the Four-Acre Model, citing the numerous coffee plantations and milk collection centers he observed en route to the rally. However, he stressed the need to close the production gap by adopting irrigation and pasture growing for consistent animal feed supply.
Museveni lauded for Visionary Leadership
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Sam Kutesa, commended President Museveni for delivering peace, stability, and an environment conducive to Uganda’s prosperity. He called upon the people of Sembabule to rally behind Museveni as the sole candidate in the forthcoming elections.
“Avoid internal divisions within the NRM. They weaken the Movement and give our adversaries opportunities to infiltrate,” Kutesa warned.
Hon. Shartsi Musherure, daughter of Sam Kuteesa and Mawogola North MP, thanked President Museveni for his visionary leadership that has transformed the lives of the people of Sembabule through initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, piped water projects, and expanded electricity coverage.
“While challenges remain, under your leadership, we are confident they will be addressed,” she said.
Hon. Anifa Kawooya, the MP for Mawogola West and State Minister for Health (General Duties), praised President Museveni for his focus on wealth creation and poverty eradication.
“As leaders, we pledge to continue preaching the gospel of economic empowerment and encourage communities to embrace government programs like PDM and Emyooga,” Kawooya said.
