Magogo donates Shs20m as Buyende Church unveils Shs3b vision for Parish complex

Budiope East MP Hashim Moses Magogo hands over a donation of 20 million to Bugaya catholic Parish Priest Rev Fr George Tenywa Kisige for the construction of the Parish Church

Buyende, Uganda: St. Peter Apostle Bugaya Catholic Parish has launched an ambitious UGX 3 billion fundraising drive to construct a modern Parish Complex that will include a 2,000-seater church, a monastery, and a convent.

The announcement was made by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. George Tenywa Kisige, during a mini fundraising event at the parish, located in Buyende District.

The parish, which is just under two years old, has embarked on the development project as part of its long-term vision to be a spiritually vibrant and structurally modern Catholic center in eastern Uganda.

“Being the Apostle Church Parish, we are faithfully looking at being a modern era church, growing the faith while responding to contemporary needs and relevance of our flock,” Fr. Kisige said. “Though ambitious, the complex is on course by the very providence and will of the people.”

Fr. Kisige emphasized the parish’s focus on rebuilding families and parenting institutions, especially in the face of growing domestic violence, absentee parenting, and moral decline.

He called on leaders and faithful to contribute generously to the project as a way of giving back to God and inspiring mindset change within communities. “As we head into a period of political renewal, let us live in peace, respect one another, and understand that leadership comes only from God,” Fr Kisige said, also cautioning leaders against seeking guidance from shrines.

During the mini fundraiser, FUFA President Hon. Moses Magogo, who is also Budiope East Member of Parliament, contributed UGX 20 million and presented the parish with a Papal gift, four sets of priestly robes brought from Rome.

“Though I am a Muslim, I believe in unity and the countless blessings that come from serving God,” Magogo said. “The Church plays a vital role in counseling and building society spiritually, socially, and economically with values like honesty, forgiveness, and hard work.”

Magogo further encouraged the Church to work in close coordination with government programs to foster social and economic transformation among its flock.

“So far, the Speaker [of Parliament] gave UGX 50 million recently. Today I bring UGX 20 million and next week, during the mega fundraising, we shall return with more contributions from the twins as a family,” Magogo added.
