ONC monitors PDM in Jinja, beneficiaries urge Museveni to double funds to Shs2m

Jinja, Uganda: Beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model (PDM) in Jinja City have expressed overwhelming gratitude for the financial support received through the government program, citing tangible improvements in livelihoods and economic self-reliance.

The visit, conducted on behalf of Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, Senior Presidential Advisor and National Coordinator Bazzukulu at the Office of the NRM National Chairman (ONC), was led by Ms. Rehema Kyanika (Regional Coordinator), Mr. Kisoma Samuel (Muzzukulu Coordinator), and Mr. Kabuye Rogers (Jinja City Coordinator), alongside Mr. Baligeya Robert, the PDM Executive Treasurer.

During an engagement in Mafubira Zone C, Mafubira Ward, the team met one Bogere Joshua, a poultry farmer who received UGX 1 million under the PDM program in June 2023. Bogere revealed that the support helped him revive his struggling poultry project, which has since expanded from 300 to 1,160 birds.

“Before receiving the funds, I struggled to feed my birds. But now, I collect an average of 23 trays of eggs daily, expecting to hit 30 trays soon. I employ two people and earn profits of up to UGX 200,000 daily,” Bogere told the ONC team.

While the program has recorded success for him, Mr. Bogere advocated for increased funding saying; “Doubling the support to UGX 2 million would further enhance our capacity to expand and sustain our businesses.”

The ONC team also visited Mr. Kakaire Moses, another beneficiary from Jinja Northern Division, who invested his funds in fresh produce trade, matooke, tomatoes, onions, watermelon, and more.

Kakaire said he received the funds in October 2024 and has since grown a profitable business leveraging his prior experience in the trade. “I thank the President for this opportunity. As a family, we fully support H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to continue leading beyond 2026,” he remarked.

The visits are part of ONC’s ongoing efforts to assess PDM implementation on the ground and highlight success stories, especially in urban and peri-urban zones.

The Office’s Regional Coordinator for Busoga, Ms. Kyanika Rehema, reaffirmed ONC’s commitment to monitoring government programs and ensuring beneficiaries like Bogere and Kakaire become change agents in their communities.

The Parish Development Model, launched in February 2022, aims to uplift 39% of Uganda’s population from subsistence livelihoods by providing financial and technical support at the parish level. Each parish receives UGX 100 million, with individual beneficiaries accessing UGX 1 million to initiate income-generating activities .
