Uganda’s Wabusimba Amiri joins global youth leaders at Nasser Fellowship in Cairo

Cairo, Egypt: Ugandan strategic communicator and youth advocate Wabusimba Amiri Saturday joined 150 emerging leaders from the Global South for the 5th Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership, currently underway at the Olympic Centre Hotel in Cairo under the patronage of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The 18-day fellowship, hosted at the Olympic Centre Hotel and organized by Egypt’s Ministry of Youth and Sports, is running under the theme “Egypt and the United Nations: 80 Years Representing the Issues of the Global South.”

It brings together participants from Africa, Asia, and Latin America for a series of high-level engagements, including institutional visits, cultural diplomacy, and leadership workshops focused on South-South cooperation and sustainable development.

Wabusimba, a former Advocacy and Communication Specialist at the Uganda Muslim Medical Bureau and founder of Shanix Marketing and Media Agency, currently serves as an intern in Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department of Public Diplomacy. He is also the author of “Where Do Men Spend Their Time?”, a gender and community-focused sociopolitical work.

“This fellowship is both a personal honour and a collective responsibility,” Amiri said on arrival at Cairo International Airport. “I carry with me the voices of Uganda’s youth and the legacy of African resilience.”

Founder of the Nasser Fellowship, Hassan Ghazaly, praised Amiri’s selection as a reflection of Uganda’s growing diplomatic footprint and youth leadership potential.

“Wabusimba Amiri embodies purpose-driven leadership, intellectual rigour, and cultural diplomacy,” Ghazaly said. “His inclusion is a symbol of Uganda’s role in shaping the global narrative. We are proud of him.”

The fifth edition of the fellowship has seen record participation from Latin America and reaffirmed Egypt’s growing role as a convenor of youth diplomacy and international leadership from the Global South.
