Law Council accredits Victoria University to teach and offer law degrees

Kampala, Uganda: Victoria University (VU) has achieved yet again a significant milestone after it secured accreditation from Uganda’s Law Council to offer its Bachelor of Laws (LLB) program. This development positions VU among the select institutions authorized to provide legal education in the country.

The Law Council’s official notice, dated May 6, 2025, lists Victoria University alongside 18 other accredited institutions, including Makerere University, Uganda Christian University, and Kampala International University.

“Great news! Victoria University is officially accredited by the Law Council to teach LAW in Uganda,” the university announced via its official X platform, calling the development “another bold step in shaping future legal minds with a practical, tech-driven approach.”

This accreditation follows the earlier approval by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) in July 2024, which authorized VU to admit 81 students annually into its LLB program, valid for a nine-year cycle.

VU’s LLB program is designed to blend traditional legal education with modern technological competencies. It offers students practical training through moot court competitions, mock trials, legal clinics, and internships.

Additionally, the curriculum emphasizes digital literacy and artificial intelligence proficiency, preparing graduates for the evolving legal landscape.

With this accreditation, Victoria University joins the ranks of Uganda’s esteemed legal education providers, contributing to the development of competent legal professionals equipped to meet contemporary challenges.
