Mbale, Uganda: Independent MP hopeful Counsel Paul Mugoya Wanyoto on Saturday pledged Shs20 million towards the construction of a Banyole Community Office and offered 30 bursaries to support underprivileged Banyole children during the third Oluhuje Festival held at Nakaloke Playground, Northern City Division, Mbale.
Popularly known as “the man of dollars from Nabweya,” Wanyoto received a warm welcome from hundreds of cultural enthusiasts gathered for the annual celebration, where he reaffirmed his commitment to community-driven development.
He had earlier contributed Shs3 million toward the event’s preparations and promised additional support. “I don’t work for the government, but everything I do is for my people. My address is in Nabweya. The president of the Banyole in Eastern Uganda, Mr. Kadimba Hussein, knows my home. Bring my people so we can talk and celebrate our togetherness,” Wanyoto told the crowd.
The Shs20 million pledge, DailyExpress understands, is intended for land acquisition and construction materials for the proposed community office. Wanyoto emphasized that his interventions are motivated by loyalty to the people, not political maneuvering.
“I am your servant. Whatever you send me to do, I will do. Trust me with this mandate and I will serve you well,” he said. “My brothers, Hudu Hussein and Umar Nangoli, are in the NRM primaries. Choose anyone you want to face me. I will take him on, go to Parliament, and represent you.”
Wanyoto, who is running as an independent candidate for Mbale Northern City Division MP seat, vowed to be a vibrant legislator if elected: “Honorable Speaker, I promise to be one of the most active MPs in Parliament. I will speak for my people. I will provide magical representation.”
“I don’t speak much, but I act. I’m happy to be here with you in Nakaloke. To greet you,” he concluded.
The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, who was expected as the chief guest, was represented by Capt. Mike Mukula, NRM Vice Chairman for Eastern Uganda.
Meanwhile, Ritah Namuwenge, head of the national Emyooga program, commended Kadimba Hussein, Assistant RCC for Mbale City and president of the Banyole outside Butaleja, for his outstanding community mobilization.
“This should be a lesson to President Museveni. The position he gave Kadimba is too small for a man of his caliber. He deserves a promotion to full RDC because he has shown he can truly mobilize,” she said, drawing loud applause from attendees.
Hajji Muzamil Hirome, a resident of Nakaloke and aspiring NRM Chairman for Mbale City, thanked the public, MPs, business community, and cultural leaders for supporting the festival. He used the occasion to officially declare his bid for city leadership.
The Oluhuje Festival, now in its third edition, attracted Banyole from across Eastern Uganda and other communities in a celebration of unity, culture, and heritage.
