Bushenyi, Uganda: Ms. Adrine Kobusingye, a renowned philanthropist and businesswoman from Bushenyi District, has declared her intention to contest for the position of National Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Women’s League for the 2026–2031 term.
Currently serving as the NRM Secretary for Publicity in the Bushenyi District Women’s League, Kobusingye says her ambition is rooted in the desire to uplift and empower Ugandan women through entrepreneurship, mentorship, and leadership development.
Kobusingye, who holds a degree in Development Studies from Makerere University, is widely respected for her contributions to community transformation, agribusiness leadership, and youth empowerment.
She previously served as Board Chairperson of Igara Growers Tea Factory for six years and is the Founding Chairperson of the Igara-Buhweju Tea Farmers SACCO (IGABU). She also sits on the board of the Uganda Hotel Owners Association (UHOA).
“My goal is to create a platform where women can believe in their potential, lead boldly, and access meaningful economic opportunities,” Kobusingye says.

A Rotarian at Major Donor level with Rotary Club Upper Kololo, Kobusingye’s work has focused on mentoring young female entrepreneurs and advocating for mindset change and informed decision-making among women.
Despite existing affirmative action policies, women in Uganda still face structural barriers to political participation and business advancement. Kobusingye believes that deliberate leadership at the top of the NRM Women’s League is necessary to shift this reality.
She emphasized, “I am very passionate about community transformation, leadership, and fighting poverty. Through the Women’s League, we can turn ideas into action that benefits every woman in Uganda.”

Kobusingye’s announcement comes as the NRM gears up for internal elections and the broader 2026 general election cycle. Her entry into the race positions her as a formidable candidate with grassroots experience, corporate leadership, and a long-standing track record of championing women’s empowerment.
