Entebbe, Uganda: The Uganda Women’s National Football Team, the Crested Cranes, Tuesday named its final squad for the 2024 CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship with two late changes just before departure to Tanzania.
Midfielder Resty Kobusobozi, who will be sitting for an exam on June 14, has been replaced by Asiimwe Zida while Goalkeeper Nulu Nakyaze Babirye was is dropped for seasoned custodian Ruth Aturo, one of only two foreign-based players in the squad.
The 20-player team, announced by head coach Sheryl Botes, trained for two days at Mandela National Stadium in Namboole after entering camp on Sunday, June 8, at FUFA Hotel in Kisaasi.
The squad flew out of Entebbe International Airport on Tuesday afternoon aboard Uganda Airlines.
The championship, scheduled for June 12 to 21 at the Azam Complex in Chamazi, Dar es Salaam, will follow a round-robin format featuring Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Burundi, and South Sudan.
The tournament forms part of a busy calendar for the national women’s teams, which includes upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers and the AFCON U-17 CECAFA Qualifiers.
