Sironko crowds welcome Magombe as he submits documents for Budadiri West MP race

Rev. Jackson Magombe arriving at the FDC Sironko District offices to submit his academic documents, drawing massive crowds on June 09, 2025. He is contesting for the Budadiri West MP seat.

Sironko, Uganda: Business in Sironko Town Council came to a standstill on Monday as Rev. Jackson Magombe, a prominent clergy leader and political mobilizer, stormed the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) offices to submit his academic documents ahead of the party’s primary elections for Budadiri West constituency.

Magombe, who serves as the Chairman of the Clergy in the North Mbale Diocese and Director of Operations in the office of outgoing Budadiri West MP Nathan Nandala Mafabi, drew large crowds of supporters upon his arrival, disrupting normal activities in the area.

He is seeking to succeed Nandala Mafabi, the longstanding MP who is now vying for Uganda’s presidency.

Wokoka Moses, the FDC District Electoral Commission Chairperson for Sironko, confirmed that three individuals, Rev. Jackson Magombe, Phiona Banga, and Livingston Giluli, submitted their academic documents for verification.

“All three candidates are eligible and have been cleared to begin mobilization activities as we prepare for nominations and elections,” Wokoka said.

Additional aspirants for the Budadiri West FDC ticket include Geoffrey Wanyoto, Dr. Richard Kabala, Makwasi Sharif, and Amos Mugembe.

While addressing journalists, Rev. Magombe rallied the youth to support his candidacy in the primaries and vowed to continue his predecessor’s legacy of transformational leadership.

“My mission is to advocate for increased household incomes, mobilize people to work hard, and provide leadership to guide them on what to do. I will lobby for infrastructure development, such as access roads, and work hard to improve the education system. We must remain united and conduct a peaceful campaign,” Magombe said.

He added, “I have the keys of Nandala Mafabi and I will ensure his vision continues. As he leads the country, I will be here to support you all, just as he has done.”

Meanwhile, Phiona Banga, through her campaign manager, declared her bid for Woman MP of Sironko District under the FDC banner, emphasizing a leadership style centered on dignity, inclusion, and service.

“I am not here to speak for myself, but to stand for every woman, every youth, every farmer, and every child in Sironko. I represent a new kind of leadership—honest, committed, and ready to deliver,” she stated.

FDC party nominations for parliamentary aspirants are scheduled to take place from June 16 to 17, 2025.
