Kampala, Uganda: Organisers of the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon officially unveiled the 2025 edition on Wednesday, confirming that the event will take place on Saturday, August 23, in Kasese District at the base of the Rwenzori Mountains.
The marathon, now in its fourth edition, is expected to attract over 6,000 runners, marking its highest turnout to date.
Athletes from more than 25 countries have already confirmed participation, with Kenya leading registrations at over 2,000 runners. Other participating nations include Uganda, UAE, Canada, Australia, England, Spain, Qatar, and the United States.
Speaking at the official launch at Sheraton Kampala Hotel, organisers led by Tourism Entrepreneur Amos Masaba Wekesa revealed that the marathon will feature four race categories: 42 km, 21 km, 10 km, and 5 km.
Beyond competition, Wekesa says this year’s edition will promote key themes including talent development, healthy living, climate change awareness, and tourism.
“It’s not just about who finishes first. It’s about championing climate action, supporting rising talent, and using sports as a tool to transform communities,” he said.

With a vision to attract runners from at least 40 countries by race day, the event is fast becoming one of East Africa’s most diverse and climate-conscious sporting spectacles.
The 2025 edition will also feature improved logistics, an expanded runners’ village, and a Neon Rave After-Party powered by Tusker Lite to cap off the day’s activities.
International promotional activations have already been held in key cities such as Nairobi, Moshi, Cape Town, Dubai, Boston, Arusha, and Qatar, positioning the Rwenzori Marathon as a premium blend of sport, sustainability, and tourism.
