West Nile Milestone: Engineering Hope
The company’s latest feat, delivering the $13.5 million Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) Faculty of Engineering and Technology in Arua, underscores this transformation. Handed over on June 13, 2025, the state-of-the-art faculty features laboratories, lecture halls, and a 500-bed student hostel, completed within just two years.
Funded by the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), the project was inaugurated by Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia alongside Uganda’s Ambassador to Turkey, Nusurah Tiperu, and IUIU officials.
More than just concrete and steel, the faculty represents a turning point for West Nile’s youth. With programs in civil, electrical, mechanical, and computer engineering, it promises to produce the region’s next generation of innovators.
From Mbale to Arua: VCON’s Expanding Footprint
This isn’t VCON’s first educational landmark. In 2023, the company was awarded a $9.1 million contract to build academic infrastructure at IUIU’s main campus in Mbale. Its success in both Mbale and Arua has positioned VCON as a go-to partner for large-scale, high-impact public works.
These achievements reflect not only VCON’s growing technical capacity but also its rising profile in Uganda’s construction landscape, where private firms compete against military-linked contractors for government and donor-funded projects.

Despite an uneven playing field and increasing costs, VCON’s integration into the Ruparelia ecosystem gives it an edge. Backed by one of Uganda’s most successful conglomerates, it enjoys access to strategic capital and networks that fuel its continued success.
In Arua, the construction of the IUIU facility created hundreds of jobs and boosted the local economy. “This project brought life to our town,” said Joseph Okello, a local vendor. “VCON didn’t just build a school, they built hope.”
