Kampala, Uganda: The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) spokesperson, Rogers Mulindwa has declared that President Yoweri Museveni’s leadership is not a matter of political chance but divine appointment, asserting that “leaders are chosen by God” and that Ugandans should accept Museveni’s continued reign as the will of the Almighty.
Mr Mulindwa made the remarks while commenting on the enduring leadership of President Museveni, who has led Uganda for nearly four decades and remains at the helm of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
“Leaders are chosen by God, and President Museveni has been leading by the grace of God. If it is still God’s will, he will continue to lead,” Mulindwa said.
His comments come at a time when political conversations in Uganda are heating up ahead of the 2026 general elections. Despite repeated challenges from opposition figures over the years, Museveni has consistently maintained a firm grip on power through electoral victories and sustained national support across various regions.
According to Mr Mulindwa, the repeated re-election of President Museveni is no accident. “It is not a coincidence that President Museveni keeps winning. He is blessed, and God knows he is the right leader for Uganda,” he added.
Recent political polls and grassroots mobilization activities suggest that Museveni remains a frontrunner, with overwhelming support still visible across key regions despite attempts by opposition movements to build momentum.
But the NRM Spokesman’s remarks have since sparked reactions online, with supporters hailing Museveni’s “divine mandate” while critics argue that political leadership should reflect the democratic will of the people rather than divine attribution.
Nonetheless, his statements are consistent with the NRM’s messaging that paints Museveni as a stabilizing force and visionary whose leadership continues to transform Uganda.
