Buganda, Uganda: The aspiring Youth Member of Parliament (MP) for Central Region, Nassolo Sharon Umutoni, has called on Uganda’s youth to rise boldly and take their place in the governance and accountability of the country, saying their moment to lead is now, not tomorrow.

Nassolo, who is vying for the Youth MP Central Region seat in the 2026 elections, made the remarks in a powerful statement titled “Reclaiming Our Future”, rallying young people across Buganda to unite, reject division, and focus on value addition as a tool for economic empowerment.

“We are not just the leaders of tomorrow—we are key players today. The future of our region depends on how we show up now: in governance, in accountability, and in adding value to everything we touch,” she said.

She emphasized that while youth skilling initiatives have been rolled out across districts, the real problem lies in implementation gaps and poor governance that deny many young Ugandans the opportunity to thrive.

“Too often, our ideas end at imagination because of poor governance. Imagine if our voices influenced budgets. Imagine a youth trained in agriculture not just growing crops—but being supported to package, brand, and export them,” she noted.

Nassolo, who hails from Buganda, argued that patriotism among youth should not be measured by slogans, but by action and courage to question and protect public resources.

“A patriotic youth does not wait for help—they build, create, question, and protect,” she stated, urging young people to stand against corruption and contribute to district development.

She also cautioned against tribalism and regionalism, calling for unity across Luweero, Masaka, Kalangala, and other districts in Central Uganda.

“Let no tribe, district, or background divide us. When youth are united, nothing can stand in our way,” she stressed.

In her statement, Nassolo vowed to be a voice for the voiceless and challenged the culture of empty political promises, saying her campaign is anchored on hope, realism, and actionable plans.

“I have walked the dusty roads, felt the weight of being unheard, and faced the walls built by empty promises. But I also carry hope, strategy, and the courage to challenge the status quo,” she said.

“If you give me your trust, I will deliver to the maximum—not for fame, but for our future. I will be your voice, your defender, your mobilizer, and your partner in transforming our generation’s story.”

Nassolo is expected to formally launch her campaign in the coming months, with a focus on youth economic empowerment, skills training, education reforms, and civic participation in the Buganda sub-region.
