Kampala, Uganda: Uganda’s Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abbas Byakagaba Tuesday held high-level bilateral talks with his South Sudanese counterpart, General Abraham Manyaut Peter, at the Police Headquarters in Naguru.
The meeting, according to the IGP, focused on enhancing regional cooperation in the fight against international organised crime and cross-border criminal networks, which remain a persistent threat across East Africa.
“I met with my South Sudanese counterpart, General Abraham Manyaut Peter, the Inspector General of the National Police Service of South Sudan, at the Police Headquarters in Naguru. We discussed bilateral security matters, focusing on combating international organized crimes and cross-border crimes,” IGP Byakagaba posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle.

The engagement between the two police chiefs comes in the wake of growing urgency for regional police forces to tighten intelligence sharing and operational coordination as transnational crimes such as human trafficking, arms smuggling, cybercrime, and cattle rustling continue to evolve across the Uganda–South Sudan border.
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation under existing frameworks such as the East African Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (EAPCCO) and the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation (AFRIPOL).
Sources within Uganda Police say future engagements may also involve joint cross-border operations and specialized training in handling terrorism and organized syndicates that exploit weak points in regional surveillance.
