Wakiso, Uganda: The Uganda Police Traffic Directorate has confirmed the arrest of a driver who was captured dangerously overloading a vehicle on Masaka Road at night, following a public alert that triggered swift police action.
According to SP Michael Kananura, the Traffic Police Public Relations Officer, the driver of vehicle registration number UA 291AA was intercepted and is currently detained at Nsangi Police Station, awaiting arraignment in court.
“We confirm the detention of the driver… the incident was reported by a vigilant member of the public,” SP Kananura stated via his official X account on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. “The driver will appear in court to face relevant charges related to the offence committed.”
The traffic police have reiterated their appeal to motorists to observe road safety regulations, warning that irresponsible behavior endangers lives and will be met with firm legal action.
“Public vigilance and responsible road use remain crucial in our efforts to prevent crashes and protect lives,” SP Kananura emphasized.
The arrest follows a growing trend of traffic enforcement through citizen reporting and surveillance, as authorities tighten the noose on reckless road users amid rising nighttime traffic incidents.
