Florence Atugonza nominated for NRM primaries in Kiryandongo Woman MP Race

Kiryandongo, Uganda: Florence Atugonza has been officially nominated to contest as the NRM flag bearer for Woman Member of Parliament in Kiryandongo District, setting the stage for a heated campaign season ahead of the party primaries.

The nomination, conducted in Kampala on Tuesday, June 24, was followed by a massive welcome in Kiryandongo, where jubilant residents thronged trading centres from Masindi Port to Karuma Town Council in celebration.

Addressing her supporters, Atugonza thanked the people of Kiryandongo for their overwhelming support and reaffirmed her commitment to championing inclusive leadership.

“My manifesto covers all categories of people. I will prioritize jobs, fight defilement and defamation, and ensure all communities are fairly represented,” she said, vowing to tackle the issue of tribalism in job recruitment within the district.

The Woman MP hopeful also pledged to confront land grabbing and corruption, calling them persistent injustices that have plagued the district for years.

Nakito Florence, a resident of Bweyale Town Council, hailed Atugonza’s leadership vision. “Kiryandongo has long lacked a bold leader like Florence. She has already proven her value even before joining politics,” she said.

Meija Walter from Kigumba praised Atugonza’s role during the COVID-19 pandemic when she served as a liaison officer in the Office of the President.

“She helped regulate the cargo flow at Malaba border during the 2020 lockdown. President Museveni trusted her at a critical time, and she delivered,” Walter said.

One supporter, known by the alias “Selector OJ,” reportedly sustained an injury during the festivities. Atugonza assured the crowd she would personally cover his medical expenses.
