Jinja, Uganda: The Head of the Indian Military Advisory and Training Team (IMATT), Brigadier General BS Fogat, on Tuesday led a delegation of outgoing Indian military advisors in a farewell visit to the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, marking the conclusion of their two-year deployment in Uganda.

The Indian team, based at the Senior Command and Staff College (SCSC) in Kimaka, has played a key role in strengthening the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) through technical and doctrinal training support.

Gen Muhoozi praised the outgoing team for their professionalism and dedication to the UPDF’s institutional growth.

“Your contribution has left a lasting impact, especially in building the strategic competence of our senior officers. We thank you for walking this journey with us,” Gen Kainerugaba said during the meeting.

The CDF also expressed optimism about continued bilateral cooperation with India in defense and security capacity-building, noting the enduring relationship between the two nations.

Brig Gen Fogat, in his farewell remarks, commended Gen Kainerugaba for his personal support and commitment to military excellence.

“We are grateful for the CDF’s collaborative spirit and the warm hospitality extended to us throughout our stay. The support has enabled us to effectively execute our mandate and strengthen military ties between our nations,” Brig Gen Fogat said.

He further noted Gen Muhoozi’s hands-on involvement in advancing officer-level training and commended Uganda’s continued focus on professionalizing its armed forces.

A new Indian Military Advisory and Training Team is expected to take over the roles, ensuring continuity of the defense partnership.
