Uganda’s leading private varsity, Victoria University (VU) Kampala, has joined forces with global immersive technology giant EON Reality to launch a groundbreaking AI-powered education platform under the Spatial AI R&D Grant Program.
The partnership, unveiled last week on June 17 in Kampala, marks a turning point for Africa’s digital education ambitions, positioning Uganda as a trailblazer in experiential learning through Spatial Artificial Intelligence and Extended Reality (XR).
The collaboration will establish a Spatial AI University at Victoria University, redefining 21st-century education by fusing traditional instruction with immersive, AI-driven virtual environments, introducing a revolutionary “Third Way” learning model that bridges gaps in conventional classroom methods and the limitations of purely online learning.
“We are thrilled to partner with EON Reality to realize our vision of a World Class University for Transformational Education,” said Dr. Lawrence Muganga, Vice Chancellor of Victoria University.
He added, “By leveraging Spatial AI and XR, we are not only equipping our students with future-ready skills, but also setting new benchmarks for personalized, interactive learning across the continent.”
The announcement comes as African economies increasingly prioritize digital upskilling. Victoria University, chartered by President Yoweri Museveni in 2022, has long distinguished itself through innovation, student-centered delivery, and employability-focused training.
Through this Spatial AI integration, students will interact with simulations in engineering, health, business, and other disciplines—gaining practical skills before stepping into real-world work environments.
Dan Lejerskar, Chairman of EON Reality, hailed the partnership as a game-changer: “This partnership with Victoria University marks a pivotal leap in our commitment to democratize knowledge and make high-quality, immersive education available worldwide.”
“Together, we’re creating an educational ecosystem that goes beyond borders and traditional barriers, allowing students in Africa to thrive in the digital age,” he added.
The partnership also grants VU access to EON Reality’s global XR library and code-free Spatial AI development platform, empowering students and faculty to become creators of virtual content and simulations tailored to Africa’s developmental context.
With this new partnership, Victoria University is positioning itself not just as a private education leader but as a regional hub for innovation-driven learning.
