Ex-LC5 Chair Jogo takes on Musasizi in second shot at Rubanda East MP seat

Former RUbanda LC5 Chairperson, Mr Jogo Kenneth Biryabareema addresses supporters in Bubare Town Council as he launches his second bid for the Rubanda East MP seat.

Rubanda, Uganda: Former Rubanda District LC5 Chairperson Jogo Kenneth Biryabareema has officially launched his campaign for the Rubanda East Parliamentary seat on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket, pledging to champion legislation that protects farmers from counterfeit agricultural inputs.

Speaking to hundreds of supporters gathered at Murwere Primary School playground in Bubare Town Council, Jogo promised to push for a law banning the sale of fake seeds and fertilizers, which he said have crippled agricultural productivity in the district.

“I will, with other colleagues, move to legislate a law that will help to protect farmers against buying counterfeit seeds and fertilizers already on the market,” Jogo declared to cheers from the crowd.

His campaign launch was marked by enthusiastic processions along Nyamweru Road and local trading centers, with supporters lining the routes to welcome him.

Jogo also committed to advocating for salary enhancements for all teachers, including arts educators who have protested delayed pay reforms.

“All teachers deserve equal pay because they all go to the market and in other places of services,” he said. “I will advocate for equal pay for all teachers.”

In a dramatic moment during the rally, supporters handed him cash contributions, claiming it was part of alleged bribes they had received from Minister Henry Musasizi to denounce Jogo’s candidacy.

The former district chair is making a second attempt at the Rubanda East MP seat. In 2020, he lost the NRM primaries to Henry Musasizi, the current State Minister for Finance in charge of General Duties. He later contested as an independent but was again defeated by Musasizi in the general election.

Jogo has consistently accused his opponents of electoral malpractice, including vote rigging, commercialization of politics, and voter intimidation.

Rubanda District was carved out of Kabale in 2017, with Jogo serving as its pioneer LC5 Chairperson. As NRM primaries officially commence across Uganda, he is banking on his record as a tested leader to mobilize grassroots support for a comeback.
