Kampala, Uganda: The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission has announced fresh adjustments to the party’s electoral roadmap, setting a new date for forthcoming parliamentary primaries.

Addressing journalists on Wednesday at the NRM headquarters in Kyadondo, the Party’s Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, confirmed that elections for NRM parliamentary flag bearers, which were initially scheduled for July 16, will now be held on July 17, 2025.

“The election for members of parliament flag bearers has been shifted from 16th July to 17th July to accommodate the election by the NRM of PWDs at the same time,” Dr. Odoi stated.

He emphasized that joint campaigns are mandatory for all aspirants, including those contesting constituency seats and district Woman MP positions. “Joint campaigns is a must for all aspirants… guided by the guidelines we’ve released to all districts,” he stressed.

Dr. Odoi also provided an update on the nomination process for the party’s presidential flag bearer and national chairperson, confirming that the return of forms was officially opened this week.

“You are free to canvass for votes, you are free to get signatures, and bring your forms for nomination. But those signatures must reflect national identity, they must cover the whole country,” he warned.

He further clarified that signatures from only two regions would result in disqualification.

The commission outlined the final days for nomination submissions:

  • Friday, July 4th will mark the close of nominations for other positions.
  • Saturday, July 5th has been exclusively reserved for the nomination of President Yoweri Museveni, who is seeking to return as both party National Chairperson and presidential flag bearer.

“We don’t expect to nominate anybody on Saturday other than His Excellency President Yoweri Museveni who has booked that day,” Dr. Odoi said firmly.

He urged all aspirants to complete their nominations by July 4th, ahead of the presidential nomination deadline.
