Wakiso, Uganda: Police in Kampala Metropolitan have arrested a woman suspected to be the last person to see the late Dr. John Spire Kiggundu alive before his body was discovered at Dream Guest House along Entebbe Road.
The woman, identified as Eva Mbabazi and believed to be in her early 20s, was picked up by security operatives after CCTV footage reportedly captured her leaving the guest room shortly before Dr. Kiggundu was found dead.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, Dr. Kiggundu checked into the Lubowa-based facility at 5:45 PM on June 21, 2025, where the same woman also appeared, according to CCTV footage, but his lifeless body was recovered approximately an hour later.
“Eva Mbabazi has been arrested, and her statement has been recorded,” Onyango said. “A general inquiry file has been opened and forwarded to the state attorney for further guidance.”
Social media accounts had widely circulated Mbabazi’s name as the last person seen with the deceased, prompting investigators to track her down for questioning.
Authorities say the cause of death will be confirmed after an official postmortem report has been passed by the police medical expert.
