Kenyan woman, 29, collapses, dies at Tororo Lodge

Malaba, Uganda: Police in Malaba Town Council, Tororo District, have launched investigations into the sudden death of a 29-year-old Kenyan woman who was found unconscious in a lodge on Friday morning.

The deceased, identified as Hodhen Abdi, a Somali national and resident of Garisa, Kenya, was pronounced dead at Hope For Life Drug Shop in Amoni B’ Cell, Malaba Town Council, shortly after she was rushed there for emergency treatment.

Bukedi South Regional Police Spokesperson, IP Moses Mugwe, confirmed the incident and said preliminary findings indicate that Abdi had travelled to Uganda on the evening of Thursday, July 3, and checked into Safari Guest House in Malaba.

“On the following morning at around 11 am, a cleaner discovered the woman lying unconscious in her room. She was immediately rushed to a nearby drug shop for medical attention, but was unfortunately pronounced dead upon arrival,” Mr Mugwe stated on Saturday.

He noted that there were no visible physical injuries on her body. Investigators have since established that Abdi had travelled to Malaba to visit relatives who later informed police that she had a history of diabetes, which could be linked to her death.

A team of detectives and Scene of Crime Officers documented the lodge and the drug shop, and statements were recorded from witnesses to aid ongoing inquiries.

By press time, her body had been conveyed to Tororo General Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
