Wakiso, Uganda: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni yesterday (Monday) kicked off his Parish Development Model (PDM) assessment tour in Wakiso District with a rallying call to Ugandan youth to embrace government wealth creation programmes and reject leaders who thrive on empty politicking.
The President, who began his tour in Maganjo, inspected Kagoma United Fabricators SACCO and Skilling Centre, an initiative he personally supported in 2018 to equip local youth with vocational skills in metal fabrication, plumbing, motor mechanics, electrical installation, and construction.
“I am happy to see that what we started is growing, the machines are functioning well, and the youth know how to use them,” Mr Museveni said after touring the facility.
The President later proceeded to Gombe Division to visit Isaac Luzze, a model beneficiary of the PDM initiative, who has transformed his 1.5 acres of land into a thriving enterprise with piggery, poultry, coffee, and banana plantations.
“We shall support him to be an example to many others in his area,” Museveni pledged.
While en route to address youth at Wampewo in Gayaza, the President stopped to inspect the ongoing tarmacking of the road from Matugga through Kasangati to Kira, commending the progress as part of broader infrastructural efforts to enhance service delivery in peri-urban Wakiso.
In his keynote address to hundreds of youth, Mr Museveni emphasized the importance of leveraging the peace and security guaranteed by the NRM government to advance household income and fight poverty.
“I encouraged them to seize the opportunities created by the current peace and security to improve their circumstances. Government programmes like the Skilling Hubs, the PDM, and the Four Acre Model are designed to lift families from poverty into the money economy,” he said.
The President also used the platform to deliver a political message, cautioning against electing leaders who are high on promises but low on delivery. “Uganda’s progress depends on electing leaders who deliver results rather than merely making promises. Leadership should focus on achieving tangible outcomes,” he remarked.
Museveni’s wealth creation tour in Wakiso follows similar engagements in Greater Mpigi, Butambala, and Kayunga, where model farmers and skilled youth have been showcased as proof of the PDM’s impact.
