Ssemujju on how opposition need to work to defeat NRM

Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda says the opposition need to forge a united front against NRM ahead of 2026 elections.

Kampala, Uganda: Kiira Municipality Member of Parliament Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has urged opposition parties to urgently close ranks and work together if they hope to dislodge the National Resistance Movement (NRM) from power.

Speaking during a recent media engagement, Ssemujju said the single biggest obstacle facing opposition forces has always been internal division, despite a shared desire to end NRM’s decades-long rule.

“The problem is clear: we are too divided to mount an effective challenge,” Ssemujju explained. “This is why we must sit together, openly discuss our mistakes, and agree on a way forward.”

The former FDC spokesperson recounted that when the National Unity Platform (NUP) led by Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, alias Bobi Wine, was formed, there was hope it would catalyze broader opposition collaboration. However, efforts to forge a united front, particularly meetings with other leaders like Dr. Kizza Besigye, did not yield the expected alliance.

“People thought it would automatically unite all forces fighting the same opponent, but unfortunately, that never materialised,” Ssemujju noted.

Ssemujju, now a PFF stalwart, emphasized that the only way to build trust and cohesion is to create honest channels for dialogue, mutual criticism, and collective strategy.

“If NUP has made mistakes, it is our duty to sit with them and point out these mistakes. I invite them to do the same to us if they feel we are making mistakes,” he said. “This is the only way we can work collectively as opposition to defeat NRM.”

Ssemujju’s remarks come at a time when opposition supporters are increasingly demanding unity ahead of the 2026 general elections, amid concerns that fragmented efforts will once again hand the ruling party an easy victory.
