Hoima City, Uganda: Candidates contesting various party positions in Hoima City have applauded Eng. Jonard Asiimwe, the NRM Chairperson for Hoima City, for his exemplary leadership and coordination of peaceful joint campaigns under the ruling party’s ongoing internal elections.
The applause comes at a time when the NRM secretariat is grappling with violent clashes and disunity in districts like Mubende, Isingiro, and parts of Teso, which have forced the temporary suspension of party activities.
Hoima City, on the other hand, has emerged as a model of harmony, order, and discipline, a development many have attributed to Eng. Asiimwe’s inclusive and firm leadership style.
Speaking at the close of a joint rally yesterday (Tuesday), several aspirants commended Asiimwe’s hands-on approach, transparent coordination, and commitment to ensuring a level playing field for all contestants.
“Unlike in other regions where candidates are fighting for platforms, here in Hoima, we have moved together as one team. This is all thanks to Eng. Jonard’s mature and unifying leadership,” said an NRM parliamentary aspirant who requested anonymity to speak freely.

Another contestant for the Women Council position described the process as “the most organized campaign atmosphere I’ve seen in any city election.”
“All candidates have been treated fairly. There is clarity on the program, and most importantly, there’s a sense of mutual respect. I want to thank our chairman, Eng. Asiimwe for showing that unity in diversity is possible,” she said.
Eng. Asiimwe, who is also in the race for NRM Vice Chairperson for Western Uganda, has repeatedly emphasized that party unity, grassroots cohesion, and discipline must define this electoral season.
“As a leader, my job is to ensure that NRM remains one family. Internal elections should not break us apart. The party gave clear guidelines on joint campaigns, and we’ve simply followed them while emphasizing respect for one another,” Asiimwe said in his remarks after Tuesday’s rally in Hoima City.

NRM Party leaders in Hoima City credit Asiimwe’s professional background and calm temperament for his ability to bring even fierce rivals together.
Under his guidance, all NRM aspirants in Hoima City, from LC structures to Parliamentary hopefuls, have participated in joint mobilization events without major incident. The rallies have been held on schedule, without violence, and with growing turnouts, a sharp contrast from scenes of chaos reported elsewhere in the country.

Meanwhile, NRM Electoral Commission officials deployed in Bunyoro have also privately expressed appreciation for the Hoima City model, describing it as a possible blueprint for replication in other conflict-prone regions.
As Asiimwe continues with the coordination of joint campaigns, he is being increasingly seen not only as a key mobilizer in Hoima but also as a unifier with the potential to contribute to NRM’s national cohesion efforts.
