Kalaki, Uganda: Asako Monica, a dynamic community leader from Ousia Village in Kalaki District, has declared her intention to run for Woman Member of Parliament on a platform rooted in women’s empowerment, agricultural transformation, youth skills development, and healthcare access.

Speaking during her launch in Kalaki Town, Asako unveiled a bold manifesto centered on inclusive development and equity, promising to give voice to the needs of rural households, especially women, youth, and marginalized communities.

“This is not just a campaign. It’s a movement to put Kalaki’s grassroots priorities at the center of national conversation. I’ve lived the struggles our people face, now I want to help solve them from Parliament,” she said.

Focus on Women’s Economic Empowerment

At the heart of Asako’s agenda is a pledge to uplift women’s livelihoods. She has promised to mobilize resources for women-led businesses, especially in agriculture and craft production, to enhance household incomes and spur local economic activity.

“Women are the backbone of our economy. We will facilitate access to capital for their businesses, and promote markets for their products,” she declared.

Asako also pledged to fight harmful cultural practices such as early and forced marriages by working with clan leaders and religious institutions to create safe spaces for young girls to remain in school.

The Woman MP aspirant also proposes a network of vocational training centers across Kalaki, offering courses in carpentry, tailoring, welding, and ICT, to equip youth with market-ready skills.

She emphasized her commitment to agricultural modernization, calling it the “lifeline of Kalaki’s economy.” Her plan includes promoting climate-smart farming, improving access to markets, and securing food resilience at the household level.

On health, Asako promised to upgrade local health facilities to reduce maternal and child mortality, citing long distances and inadequate services as key obstacles. “Healthcare must be accessible, affordable, and community-based. I’ll push for more equipment, more staff, and better drug availability at our centers,” she said.

Education, Water, and Accountability

Asako’s education blueprint focuses on teacher training, reducing pupil-teacher ratios, and upgrading classroom infrastructure to improve learning outcomes.

To tackle Kalaki’s water and sanitation crisis, Asako committed to drilling solar-powered boreholes and protecting natural spring wells to serve underserved communities.

She also pledged to promote inclusive governance, protecting the rights of the elderly, persons with disabilities, and orphans through deliberate social protection programs.

“My leadership will be about service, not show. I believe in transparent governance where people’s voices guide decisions,” she emphasized.

Asako Monica’s candidacy has drawn early attention for its community-first approach, and she says she is confident the people of Kalaki are ready for leadership that listens and acts.
