Wakiso, Uganda: President Yoweri Museveni has pledged a comprehensive investigation into the escalating land wrangles in Kasokoso village, Kira Municipality, whilst committing an additional UGX 100 million to support poverty alleviation through the area’s Ghetto SACCOs.

Mr Museveni made the directive during his Thursday visit to Kasokoso, one of the Kampala suburbs struggling with longstanding land disputes and mismanagement of government poverty eradication programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM).

“I will investigate the land issues in Kasokoso, involving all affected parties, to find a fair solution,” the President said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) shortly after addressing the Bazzukulu on the evening.

In his post, Mr Museveni faulted local leadership for failing to resolve the grievances of residents, blaming their continued suffering on poor electoral choices. “The people of Kira have ‘committed suicide’ by electing leaders who failed to address these issues,” he said.

The President emphasized the need for proper structures and accountability within programs like PDM, Emyooga, and urban SACCOs, noting that these government interventions must involve elders and community councils to prevent misuse.

“Programs like PDM, Emyooga, and ghetto SACCOs need proper structure, with every parish involving elders and councils. If 100 people each receive one million shillings, they should elect committees to manage the funds,” he added.

As part of the renewed commitment to the urban poor, Museveni announced an extra Shs100 million for the ghetto SACCOs to boost local enterprise and youth inclusion in economic development.

“We shall allocate an additional 100 million shillings to support the fight against poverty in the ghettos. I will return with solutions to the land issues soon,” he pledged.

Museveni’s visit follows growing tensions in Kasokoso over forced evictions, allegations of land grabbing, and rising frustration over delays in accessing PDM funds. Residents have repeatedly blamed area MPs and councillors for failing to represent their plight.

The President’s remarks add momentum to his 2025 wealth creation tour, where similar pledges have been made across the country.
