Security and NRM candidates during a closed-door meeting chaired by Kamuli RDC on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, to address campaign violence .

Kamuli, Uganda: Security agencies in Kamuli have held an emergency meeting with NRM parliamentary candidates for Kamuli Municipality following a spate of violence and intimidation during the ongoing party primaries.

The meeting, chaired by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Ms Birungi Rose, brought together top security officials, including the Regional Police Commander (RPC), District Internal Security Officer (DISO), and Kamuli District Police Commander (DPC), to engage with the aspirants on maintaining law and order during campaigns.

The security leadership warned candidates against inciting their supporters and called for restraint amid rising tensions, including reports of assault and malicious damage to campaign vehicles.

“We urge all candidates to prevail over their supporters and avoid provocation or chaos,” Busoga North RPC, SSP Lwamusayi Frantile, emphasized during the meeting.

Key Resolutions

The meeting resolved to implement the following measures immediately to curb violence and restore sanity in the campaigns:

  1. All campaign activities must end by 6:00 PM.
  2. Each candidate is limited to a maximum of three vehicles, with no processions allowed.
  3. Candidates must regulate activities at so-called ‘political shrines.’
  4. Campaigns are restricted from entering Kamuli’s central business areas.

The security officials also committed to enforcing the law and holding all perpetrators of electoral violence accountable.

“We are committed to ensuring that anyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law,” said ASP Kasadha Micheal, Regional Police Spokesperson for Busoga North.

The move comes amid concerns that increasing political tensions in Kamuli could derail the NRM primary process if left unchecked. The new directives are part of broader efforts to ensure peaceful, orderly, and credible internal elections in the sub-region.
