Kampala, Uganda: The NRM Central Region Vice Chairperson aspirant, Hakim Kyeswa, has petitioned the party’s Electoral Commission to sanction joint campaigns and release the voter register for the forthcoming Central Executive Committee (CEC) elections, citing transparency and fairness.
In a letter dated July 2025 addressed to Dr Tanga Odoi, the NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, Kyeswa argues that coordinated campaigns, such as those happening in the ongoing primaries, would promote unity within the ruling party and give candidates equal opportunity to engage the electorate.
“As a candidate for a position on the Central Executive Committee of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), I am writing to request consideration for joint campaign events for all candidates. This would foster a spirit of unity and fairness, allowing us to reach a wider audience and engage with voters more effectively,” Kyeswa’s letter reads in part.
The ONC Digital Media boss further emphasized the importance of voter data access for the credibility of the electoral process, saying, “Access to this information would enable us as candidates to verify the eligibility of voters and ensure that the electoral process is conducted fairly.”
“I believe that these measures, if effected, would contribute to a more transparent, inclusive, and credible electoral process, reflecting the values and principles of our GREAT PARTY,” he emphasized.
Kyeswa copied the letter to President Yoweri Museveni, the NRM National Chairman, as well as to the party Secretary General and Director of Legal Affairs, signalling the gravity of his appeal.
The request comes amid heightened political activity in the Central Region, where multiple aspirants are eyeing strategic positions on the party’s highest decision-making organ. Kyeswa has been actively traversing Buganda sub-region constituencies, branding his campaign around unity, transparency, and grassroots mobilisation.
Observers say the demand for a voters’ register is not unusual but could stir debate within party ranks over access protocols, especially as the NRM grapples with internal power realignments ahead of 2026.
DailyExpress has learnt that the NRM Electoral Commission has received several such requests from aspirants seeking fair campaign conditions, but has yet to issue a public directive on whether joint campaigns will be officially sanctioned.
