Kalaki, Uganda: The fishing communities of Kalaki District have thrown their weight behind Asako Monica, one of the frontrunners for Woman Member of Parliament in the NRM primaries, rallying support around her social and economic transformation manifesto, which she has framed as a direct pact with the people.

While campaigning on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in the parishes of Kibimbo, Bululu, and Abola, Asako pledged to champion the interests of the fishing communities, promising robust protection against exploitation and unfair treatment.

At Bukia landing site, where fishermen warmly welcomed her with chants of praise, Asako reaffirmed her commitment to defending their livelihoods.

“When I am elected, I will advocate for policies that protect our fishermen. I have strong ties with influential figures in security since my late father, Brig. Gen. Charles Oluka was the Director of the Internal Security Organisation. You have my word that you won’t face exploitation,” Asako told the jubilant crowd.

Beyond the fisheries sector, Asako unveiled plans for new economic livelihood programs aimed at uplifting vulnerable communities in Kalaki.

She praised the residents of Bululu for their law-abiding character and emphasized their central role in her vision for a prosperous district underpinned by transparency and accountability.

Asako’s manifesto outlines clear commitments to: enhance access to quality healthcare, improve educational standards, empower women entrepreneurs, particularly in agriculture and crafts, champion youth empowerment through targeted initiatives, and promote good governance and community oversight.

“I am dedicated to empowering both women and youth. Together, we can achieve meaningful transformation,” Asako declared, drawing loud applause from her supporters.

Political analysts in Kalaki note that Asako’s strengths in lobbying, representation, oversight, and legislation position her as a formidable contender compared to her opponents.

Her grassroots engagement and targeted messaging have made her a beacon of hope for the district’s fishing communities, who view her leadership as a path towards lasting economic security.
