Kampala, Uganda: Uganda Premier League (UPL) side Gaddafi FC has confirmed the appointment of Abdallah Mubiru as their new head coach, replacing Robert Mukasa, who guided the club back to the top-flight.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, through an official statement on the club’s website, confirming Mubiru’s two-year contract with the Entebbe-based outfit.

“We are honoured to resume our UPL chapter under the guidance of Abdallah Mubiru, an accomplished and visionary football mind,” the club stated.

Widely known in Ugandan football circles as “Tabliq,” Mubiru returns to active coaching just months after parting ways with KCCA FC. His decorated coaching CV includes stints at Police FC, Proline FC, Vipers SC, and a spell with Mbeya City in Tanzania.

“This is more than just a job—it’s a project with a vision. Gaddafi FC is a club with history, character, and passionate supporters. I’m here to build a team that plays with purpose, discipline, and identity. With the right support, we can write a new, proud chapter in the club’s legacy,” he said in his acceptance speech for the new role.

Gaddafi FC President, Mr. Opio Joseph Okurut, emphasized the strategic thinking behind this decision saying; “We are committed to building a sustainable footballing model rooted in discipline, identity, and ambition.”

“This appointment is part of a long-term vision. Coach Mubiru brings the experience, professionalism, and values that align perfectly with what we believe in as a club.”

Coach Mubiru’s appointment is seen as a major boost for Gaddafi FC, who are looking to cement their place in the Uganda Premier League following their recent promotion. His arrival is expected to bring technical expertise, calm leadership, and a track record in talent development to a squad keen on making a mark among more established sides.

Mubiru is no stranger to rebuilding projects, having previously turned struggling teams into competitive units. His tactical acumen and player management skills are expected to guide Gaddafi FC through what is anticipated to be a tough 2025/26 UPL season.

Fans and football observers have largely welcomed Mubiru’s appointment, viewing it as a fresh start for both the coach and the club.
