Gen Museveni hails Karama Warfare graduates for boosting Uganda’s military capacity

Uganda's President, Gen Museveni hailed the 413 UPDF graduates for advancing Uganda’s military readiness.

Mubende, Uganda: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Thursday passed out 413 officers and men of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) at the Mechanised Warfare College in Karama, Mubende District.

Presiding over the graduation ceremony, Gen Museveni lauded the officers for successfully completing specialized training in mechanised warfare and armoured operations, a critical component of Uganda’s military strength and preparedness.

The President, who is also the Commander in Chief (CiC), used the occasion to remind the graduates that war remains both a science and an art, stressing that while technology determines available equipment, success depends on how effectively that equipment is used on the battlefield.

“War is both an ancient science and an art. The science refers to the equipment available, while the art is how that equipment is utilized. For instance, the invention of the machine gun eliminated the use of horses on the battlefield, as seen in the Crimean War from 1853 to 1856,” Museveni said.

He commended the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and the UPDF leadership for investing in infrastructure and training that continues to position Uganda’s army as a professional force capable of responding to both conventional and modern security threats.

The President also urged the graduates to remain disciplined, safeguard their lives, and take great care of their military equipment, warning that negligence could endanger both their safety and mission effectiveness.

“I urged the graduates to take care of their lives and cherish their equipment. Neglecting this could put them at risk when war arises,” he said.

Gen Museveni congratulated the UPDF leadership, trainers, and the graduating officers for advancing Uganda’s mechanised warfare capacity, which he said is crucial for maintaining national security and peace.

The Karama Mechanised Warfare College remains a flagship institution in training Uganda’s officers in armoured operations, mechanised infantry tactics, and battlefield strategy.
