Budaka, Uganda: The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries in Bukedi North have triggered a dramatic political reshuffle with all incumbent MPs in Kibuku and Budaka districts losing their party flags, while Butebo narrowly retained its Woman MP.
In Budaka, Pamela Kamugo Nasiyo, the incumbent Woman MP, was unseated by her 2021 rival, Babula Kataike Noel, who garnered 54,061 votes (47%). Kamugo trailed with 18,858 votes (16%).
Other contenders, Stella Namutamba (16,126 votes), Hajira Musenero (12,757), Sarah Kataike (12,251), failed to match Kataike’s momentum, while Mbulaiteye Saimo, Nakirya Maureen, and Baluka Susan polled negligible numbers.
In Budaka Constituency, with incumbent Waako Arthur Mboizi opting out, Goire Moses swept to victory with 84,229 votes (69.8%), easily defeating Kezekia Mbogo (18,440 votes) and Joshua Omayende Kasibbo (16,976). Bote Moses trailed with 1,088 votes.
In Iki Iki Constituency, incumbent State Minister for Microfinance Robert Kasolo was ousted by Kampanya Abdul Swaibu, who scored 11,867 votes (44%) to Kasolo’s 7,503 votes (27.8%). Kawiso Micheal (5,157 votes) and Mujomba Sam Gagi (2,627) rounded off the contest.
Butebo: Amede Retains, Lodoi Falls
In Butebo District, incumbent Woman MP Amede Agnes narrowly retained her flag with 17,132 votes (38%), ahead of Aisu Elizabeth (15,153 votes, 34%) and Logose Monica (11,104 votes, 25%).
However, in Butebo Constituency, incumbent Patrick Lodoi Mutono was trounced by Mudokoi Fred Oduchu, who swept 32,370 votes (70%) against Lodoi’s 9,443 votes (20.6%). Lwabya Matiya (3,430 votes) and Esabu John Francis (493) fell far behind.
Kibuku: No Incumbent Survives
Kibuku witnessed a total collapse of incumbent MPs across the board.
For Woman MP, Namuyangu Kacha Jenifer, a former minister and long-time political player, was dethroned by Sylvia Damba Katooko (Suubi), the ONC Coordinator, with 42,994 votes. Namuyangu trailed with 19,458 votes. Other contenders, Nakangu Suzan (3,078 votes) and Monica Tumusiime (87 votes) fell short.
In Kabweri Constituency, newly converted NRM cadre Dr. Patrick Wakida Godfrey (aka Mu-Russia), floored incumbent Mugole Mauku David Stephen with 26,880 votes against 12,248. Keith Kaugule managed only 47 votes.
In Kibuku Constituency, Tamwenya Charles (Musumbeku) unseated Herbert Kinobere Tom, polling 14,492 votes against 13,142. Other contenders, Bonyoko Fred (4,740 votes) and Galandi Emily Luzige (676) failed to mount serious challenges.
The Bukedi North NRM primaries signaled a generational and political shift as new candidates ousted long-time incumbents, leaving Kibuku with no returning MPs on the NRM ticket. Budaka and Butebo each saw significant turnovers, except for Amede Agnes, who survived a close contest.
Political observers link the massive shift to frustrations over poor service delivery and demands for fresh leadership ahead of the 2026 General Elections.
