Kampala, Uganda: NBS Television news anchor Samson Kasumba has come out to explain why he is firmly against the practice of conducting DNA tests on himself or any of his children, saying such tests undermine the deeper value of human connection and love beyond blood ties.
Kasumba, a respected figure in Uganda’s media fraternity, said he sees no logic in obsessing over DNA when people who are not related by blood can often be more supportive, loving, and helpful than biological relatives.
“I am against DNA tests on myself and my children. I have better things to do,” Kasumba stated. “I ask these people always. You want to know, after you know, then what? I love my dogs and they are just dogs, so how can I not love children in my home that I have a connection with? You will not get it… DNA is rubbish!”
Kasumba added that his own life experiences have taught him the value of relationships built on love and kindness rather than mere biology. Kasumba pointed out that many people have been uplifted and supported by individuals with whom they share no blood relation, himself included.
“When you, like myself, have benefited immensely from the love of people with whom you have no biological connection, yet they treat you like family, then DNA tests sound nonsensical and selfish,” he explained.
“They stem from the thinking of ‘I have nothing to do with you because you are not my genes!’ Christians, what blood connections do you have with Jesus as your brother or with God now that He is your father?”
Kasumba’s comments come amid ongoing public debates in Uganda about the increasing demand for DNA tests, particularly in cases of paternity disputes. While some view DNA as a solution for family clarity, others, like Kasumba, see it as an unnecessary source of pain and division.
