Kampala, Uganda: Police have announced a cash reward of Shs50 million for information leading to the arrest of the prime suspect behind the gruesome murder of Entebbe businessman David Mutaaga and his wife Deborah Florence Mutaaga, which occurred earlier this month.
The Mutaagas, described as well-known and respected in their community, were found murdered under mysterious circumstances in their home on Sunday, July 6, 2025, and since then, security agencies have been working closely together to track down those responsible.
The couple had just returned from Switzerland when they were attacked at their residence in Lugonjo, Nakiwogo Cell, Entebbe.
Initial Police investigations indicated the attacker scaled the perimeter wall using an electric pole before breaking into the house, where both victims were fatally stabbed, and said no valuables were stolen from the home.
While investigations led to the arrest of two domestic workers, Angela Nakalema and David Golooba, who remain under interrogation, Police maintain the prime suspect remains at large.
Speaking to journalists on Monday, July 21, Uganda Police Spokesperson ACP Rusoke Kituuma said security agencies have made progress in the investigation and have since secured a recording of the suspect’s voice.
“We have obtained a recording of the suspect’s voice and urge anyone who recognises it to come forward and help identify the individual. A reward of Shs50 million has been placed to assist in the arrest of this person,” said ACP Kituuma.
He also released a 24-second audio clip and blurry CCTV footage showing a masked male suspect clad in black and maroon attire, reportedly ordering the couple to go to the hospital shortly before their murder.
ACP Kituuma warned that security agencies are intensifying efforts and all leads are being thoroughly pursued to ensure the suspect is apprehended.
Police also suspect that the motive behind the gruesome murder could be linked to either an aggravated robbery attempt or disputes related to family property, citing statements allegedly captured on the suspect’s voice recording.
The families of the deceased have called for public restraint and patience as investigations proceed, while thanking the public and Ugandan authorities for their continued support.
The Uganda Police are now appealing to members of the public with “any information that could assist in locating and apprehending the suspect, to call +256-769 675 918.”
