Man arrested in Nakasongola with friend’s head, says he was taking it to Kampala for sale

Nakasongola, Uganda: The Territorial Police in central Uganda’s Nakasongola District are holding a man accused of beheading his friend and attempting to sell his severed head for suspected ritual purposes in Kampala.

The suspect, identified as John Isoke, was intercepted by residents of Kyandigita-Bujumbula village in Nabiswera Sub-county as he attempted to flee with the human head wrapped in a brown polythene bag.

According to Savannah Region Police Spokesperson SP Sam Twiineamazima, the gruesome discovery was made on Tuesday morning after the farm manager where Isoke previously worked, Ms Ketty Namuga, found one of her workers, Herbert Ameir, murdered with his head missing.

Namuga, who was in the company of a new employee, noticed Isoke suspiciously exiting the premises, prompting a loud alarm which summoned residents to pursue the suspect.

Upon confrontation by residents, Isoke dropped the bag containing the head and tried to escape but was apprehended and handed over to Migyera Police Station.

“When questioned, the suspect admitted to killing his friend Herbert Ameir and disclosed he was transporting the head to Kisenyi, Kampala City, for sale, allegedly for ritual purposes,” SP Twiineamazima confirmed.

Isoke is believed to have used a panga to commit the murder inside a small farm house before dragging the body outside, where police recovered a blood-stained panga lying beside the decapitated body.

SP Twiineamazima affirmed that investigations are ongoing at Nakasongola Police Station as authorities probe the motive behind the murder and whether there are other individuals involved in the suspected ritual trade.
