Namutumba, Uganda: The Minister of State for Lands, Princess Persis Namuganza, has distanced herself from viral social media clips that purportedly show her dishing out cash to voters during the chaotic NRM party primaries in Bukono Constituency, Namutumba District.
Speaking out after her defeat, Namuganza, who is the incumbent MP for the constituency, dismissed the videos as “fake, malicious and staged to tarnish my name.” She maintained that she does not have the financial muscle to distribute cash during campaigns, pointing out that ministers in Uganda earn less than MPs.
“I have seen those videos circulating online allegedly showing me giving out money during the NRM primaries. I want to clarify, I do not have money. My salary is very small. In fact, MPs earn much more than ministers,” Namuganza said.
Namuganza, who was vying to retain her Bukono MP seat, accused NRM electoral officials of stealing her victory. She is now demanding a thorough investigation by the party, warning that if justice is not served, she is prepared to contest as an independent in 2026 or leave the party altogether.
“If my victory is not restored, I will not hesitate to walk away from NRM and run as an independent,” she said.
Namuganza’s remarks add fuel to the ongoing NRM primaries fallout, where allegations of fraud, bribery, and manipulation have triggered chaos, arrests, and presidential intervention.
Her case now adds to the list of high-profile disputes awaiting the special tribunal ordered by President Museveni to clean up the tainted process.
