Kampala, Uganda: Goldstar Insurance Company Ltd has unveiled a cutting-edge mobile application that allows customers to instantly report and manage insurance claims from anywhere, marking a major leap in Uganda’s insurance technology landscape.

The Goldstar Claims App, officially launched Wednesday, July 23, 2025, in Kampala, has been designed with user-friendliness, transparency, and speed in mind, allowing clients to register incidents, upload supporting documents, and get real-time feedback on claims, all from their smartphone.

“This launch is more than just about technology, it’s about trust, efficiency, and our promise to be there when our clients need us most,” said Jay Sakaria, the Chief Actuary at Goldstar. “The app is built to respond to today’s dynamic client needs; easy to navigate, secure, and fully compliant with local and international data security protocols.”

With the new Goldstar Claims App, Sakaria says policyholders will no longer need to visit offices or fill in tedious paperwork to report incidents, but can do all that through the app. He emphasized that the walk-in option is still available and not phased out completely, although with the fast-changing digital technologies, the app now offers a more viable option.

Sakaria further explains that what even makes the app more convenient for use is that it supports geo-location, offline functionality for low-data users, live document capture (photos, video, audio), and built-in claims tracking tools that alert both the insurer and brokers instantly.

Real-Time Response, Zero Hassle

According to Goldstar CEO, Mr John Kawuma, the new App comes in to simplify the most critical moment in a client’s insurance journey when they have a claim.

“Instead of searching for contact numbers or walking to our offices in times of distress, clients can simply open the app, report a claim in real time, and be guided through the process step-by-step,” Kawuma said.

He emphasized that for many years, insurance in Uganda has been held back by complex processes but the latest innovation by Goldstar comes of age to solve this. “Our challenge has never been about products—we have plenty. The issue has been accessibility and speed of service. This app directly tackles that.”

Enoch Mudadi, Goldstar’s Chief Operations Officer and Head of Risk, said the Claims app is also designed for corporate fleet clients and logistics operators.

“A driver can report a vehicle accident in real-time, attach photos and location, and the claim simultaneously notifies their fleet manager, insurance broker, and us at Goldstar. This responsiveness is revolutionary,” he said.

Mudadi cited an example of a recent factory fire reported using the app, showing the app’s potential for large-scale commercial incidents. “We are determined to deliver a service that cannot be imported, a truly Ugandan digital insurance experience,” Mudadi affirmed.

How The Goldstar Claims App Works (A Step-by-Step Guide)

Joseph Oloya, a tech expert at Goldstar, explained how the Claims App works, an insurance journey that involves five simple steps. i.e.;

  1. Incident Notification: Users select the type of claim (motor, property, fire, etc.) and enter the incident details using plain language.
  2. Upload Evidence: A claimant is asked to attach documents, images, videos, and statements directly from the phone’s gallery or in-app camera/audio tools.
  3. Claim Review & Tracker: The app provides a claims timeline and notifies the user when the claim is being processed, accepted, or needing follow-up.
  4. Live Agent Assistance: Embedded chat and contact support allows users to interact with Goldstar for urgent clarification or status updates.
  5. Secure Submission: All data is encrypted, timestamped, and geotagged, ensuring transparency and protection of client information.

The app, now available for download on Android and iOS platforms, is also integrated with back-end workflows to automate alerts, standardise report formats, and enable claim handlers to assess and assign adjustors more efficiently.
