Kampala, Uganda: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni on Friday launched the official logo, jersey, and media platforms for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, affirming Uganda’s readiness to co-host the regional football showpiece.

The event, held at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, was attended by key stakeholders from the Ministry of Education and Sports, the Local Organising Committee (LOC), CAF representatives, and members of the press.

“This tournament symbolises much more than just sport. It is a powerful vehicle for enhancing our global image and creating business opportunities,” Museveni said while unveiling the CHAN 2024 jersey alongside Maama Janet, who also serves as Minister of Education and Sports.

The President expressed satisfaction with the country’s progress in building modern stadium infrastructure and boosting sports development—citing peace, education expansion, and infrastructural investment as critical enablers of Uganda’s readiness.

“Since coming into power, we have established peace and expanded education. Now, stadiums are being built, and sport has been boosted,” Museveni remarked. “CHAN has challenged us in a positive way to act, and we embrace this pressure.”

Uganda will co-host CHAN 2024 alongside Kenya and Tanzania, marking a historic first for the East African region to collectively organise a continental football tournament.

“Our joint bid represents a significant step towards regional cohesion and the unity of East Africa,” the President stated, underscoring the diplomatic and economic significance of CHAN beyond the pitch.

President Museveni wished all participating teams success and called on Ugandans to embrace the tournament as a milestone of national pride and opportunity.

The unveiling ceremony also featured previews of the official CHAN 2024 branding materials and the launch of media channels intended to promote the tournament both locally and internationally.
