Serere, Uganda: Serere District Woman MP aspirant Acom Esther Lucy has appealed for calm and patience among her supporters as the party tribunal prepares to hear her petition challenging the July 17 NRM primaries results.
The petition, which raises serious allegations of forgery and electoral malpractice, is slated for hearing at 11 am on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the NRM tribunal. Acom accuses the Serere District registrar, William Olir, of declaring incumbent MP Hon. Hellen Adoa the winner under highly questionable circumstances.
In a statement to her supporters, Acom called for restraint as the legal process unfolds. “We must stay hopeful during this process,” she said, emphasizing unity and trust in the systems of justice within the ruling party.
Acom’s petition cites the unlawful removal of her polling agents, voter suppression, and falsification of results at the tallying center. At the heart of her complaint is the alleged misconduct of Olir, who has since been arrested and charged with forgery and falsification of election declaration forms.
The prosecution, led by State Attorney Paul Okello, contends that Olir manipulated the tally sheets at the NRM Serere tally center to favor Hon. Adoa. The arrest has added weight to Acom’s case, with growing public sentiment in Serere that the election was rigged.
Locals have echoed the belief that the battle is far from over. “The war is not yet over,” some have said, pointing to Acom’s persistent challenge as a signal that justice may still prevail.
The community remains on edge but optimistic, awaiting the tribunal’s verdict with the hope that the ruling will reflect the will of the people.
