Mukono, Uganda: Police in Mukono District have arrested three machete-wielding robbers, including one who was shot and injured while attempting to hack an officer during a dramatic pursuit of thugs at Namanve Industrial Park along the Kampala–Jinja highway.
In a statement released Tuesday morning, July 29, by Police Spokesperson ACP Rusoke Kituuma, the armed gang had staged multiple robberies in the early hours of Sunday, July 27, targeting residents in Goma Division, Mukono District, and parts of Wakiso.
The attackers reportedly began their violent spree in Nabweru before heading through Kyaliwajjala and Sonde, later extending to Seeta Town in Mukono. Their movement pattern, according to Kituuma, was confirmed by one of the suspects currently in custody.
“On 27/07/2025 at around 03:00 hrs, a group of individuals armed with pangas attacked several villages in Goma Division, Mukono District, robbing multiple people. The attackers began their spree in Nabweru-Mukono District, then continued through Kyaliwajjala, Sonde in Wakiso, and later proceeded to Seeta Town in Mukono, as admitted by one of the suspects,” ACP Kituuma wrote on Tuesday morning.
“On their return route to Nabweru, they committed another robbery at Namanve Industrial Park along the Kampala-Jinja highway. A group of boda-boda riders started pursuing them and eventually involved officers from Namanve Coca-Cola police post who joined the search,” he added.
Kituuma explained that with the help of the police, the suspects were found parked behind KAWACOM Company in the industrial park. “During the confrontation, one of the suspects, identified as Nsubuga, attempted to attack an officer with a panga. He was shot in the waist and leg and was immediately rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.”
Two other suspects, identified as Asimwe Stephen, aged 26, and Musinga Musa, aged 22, were arrested during the operation and are currently in police custody as investigations take charge.
From Asimwe, police recovered three pangas and a motorcycle bearing registration number UGG 597Y. Three smartphones believed to have been stolen from victims were also seized.
ACP Kituuma said investigations are ongoing to link the suspects to a wider network of machete-related robberies that have plagued the central region in recent months. He praised the swift coordination between the boda boda riders and security personnel, which led to the successful interception of the criminals.
