Kampala, Uganda: Prominent academic and founder of Kampala University, Prof. Badru Dungu Kateregga, has accused the Uganda Police Force of siding with his estranged wife, Jolly Shubaiha Kateregga, in an ongoing property dispute that has now turned public and legal.

The professor alleges that since September 2024, he has been denied access to his own residence, a situation he attributes to police interference influenced by his wife, whom he accuses of attempting to take his life.

Speaking through his lawyer, Fred Muwema, Prof. Kateregga stated that the conflict stemmed from a domestic fallout following a DNA test that reportedly confirmed one of their three children was not biologically his. He claims the revelation triggered a serious breakdown in the marriage, culminating in threats to his life.

“Prof. Kateregga isn’t tarnishing the image of the police. He is simply demanding transparency. He’s fighting to keep the property he worked hard for, and what hurts him most is being denied access to his own home,” said Muwema during a media briefing.

The legal team maintains that Prof. Kateregga holds documented proof of ownership for the properties in question, but police have repeatedly blocked him from accessing them. According to Muwema, this refusal raises serious concerns over procedural fairness and possible bias in the handling of domestic-related disputes.

Adding to the professor’s frustration, Muwema further accused Mrs. Kateregga of allegedly ferrying household property to Rwanda without the professor’s consent.

“This is not just about property. It is about justice, dignity, and the misuse of institutions to strip an elderly man of what he built with his own hands,” Muwema noted.

Prof. Kateregga, a respected educationist and longtime contributor to Uganda’s academic development, says he has worked for decades to build his estate. He now claims to be watching it crumble under the weight of betrayal and institutional failure.
