Serere, Uganda: Serere District Woman MP aspirant Esther Lucy Acom has dismissed as “malicious and false” reports circulating on social media claiming she issued an apology to Fisheries Minister Hellen Adoa regarding her petition now before the NRM Elections Disputes Tribunal.
Acom, who is challenging the outcome of the NRM primaries for the District Woman MP flagbearer race, said no such apology has been made or even contemplated.
“It has come to my notice that some unscrupulous persons are spreading false information on social media about me apologizing to Hon. Hellen Adoa in regard to my petition,” Acom stated in a public clarification. “I have not tendered any apology and do not intend to do so regarding the said subject matter whatsoever.”
The petition, which is being heard today, 30th July 2025, is part of the 381 cases arising out of the party’s chaotic July 17 primaries that sparked allegations of vote rigging, voter bribery, and manipulation of the NRM Yellow Book.
Acom warned the public and voters in Serere District to treat the falsehoods with contempt and remain focused on the facts. “This petition is not personal. It is about transparency, justice, and ensuring that the NRM remains accountable to its own electoral values.”
The NRM Electoral Disputes Tribunal, chaired by senior lawyer John Musime, is expected to deliver critical rulings across the country in the coming weeks.
President Yoweri Museveni last week acknowledged major irregularities and confirmed that at least 333 individuals had been arrested and 48 charged, including 13 NRM district registrars, over election fraud.
Acom’s petition against Hon. Adoa is among the most closely watched cases in the Teso sub-region and could determine the balance of political power in Serere ahead of the 2026 general elections.
