Kampala, Uganda: The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has confirmed the arrest of a notorious conman who has been impersonating a senior army officer under the false identity of “General Isa,” defrauding foreign investors of billions of shillings.
Col Chris Magezi, the Military Assistant to the Chief of Defence Forces, issued the public fraud alert on Wednesday afternoon, warning the public and international partners about the scammer.
“Fraud alert: the public is hereby informed that the notorious conman here below who calls himself ‘General Isa’ has been arrested by the security services,” Col Magezi posted.
The suspect, whose real identity is yet to be publicly disclosed, reportedly posed as a UPDF general to lure unsuspecting investors into bogus deals, promising government-backed contracts and military-linked investments.
“He has scammed many foreign investors of billions of shillings by pretending to be a UPDF General. He will be prosecuted in the courts of law accordingly,” Magezi added.
The UPDF clarified that the individual has never served in any official capacity within the military and warned others engaged in similar criminal behavior that they will face the full force of the law.
Security agencies are now working closely with victims and embassies to trace the full scale of the fraud. The public is advised to report any suspicious individuals claiming links to the military for business purposes.
