Namisindwa, Uganda: One of the aspirants in the recently concluded NRM primary elections for Namisindwa District LCV Chairperson, Simiyu Patrick Wataka, has conceded defeat and pledged full support to party flagbearer Emma Bwayo.
Simiyu, who finished fourth with 509 votes, congratulated Bwayo for winning the flag with 107,453 votes, ahead of incumbent Jackson Wakweika (66,952 votes) and Mango Situma (3,690 votes).
In his public statement on Tuesday, Simiyu said “the best candidate won,” and emphasized the need for unity behind the party’s choice.
“I will not return as an independent. We must now focus on rallying support for Bwayo and ensure victory for NRM in the general elections,” Simiyu told his supporters during an online interaction.
Bwayo Emma, the newly endorsed NRM flagbearer, welcomed Simiyu’s gesture, calling it a sign of maturity and party loyalty. “The party is bigger than any individual. Namisindwa deserves leaders who are exposed, connected, and able to bring real value to the people,” he said, adding that he will remain accessible and accountable to all residents.
The NRM district chairperson for Namisindwa, Aramazan Wabuko, applauded Simiyu’s decision and called upon all former contenders to put aside differences and rally behind the flagbearer. “Party unity is paramount.”
“We must now shift focus to mobilization, including massive support for President Museveni and all NRM candidates,” Wabuko said, revealing that he plans to convene a reconciliation meeting with all former aspirants.
The NRM primaries in Namisindwa were part of the party’s broader internal electoral process ahead of the 2026 general elections.
