Kampala, Uganda: As Buganda prepares to mark 32 years since the restoration and coronation of His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, the Senior Presidential Advisor Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo has extended heartfelt congratulations and rallied the Bazzukulu (youth) to champion health, unity, and cultural pride.
In her coronation message delivered Tuesday, July 29 at ONC offices in Kyambogo, Namyalo reiterated the Kabaka’s chosen theme for this year’s commemoration; “Let’s Stay Alive by Embracing Vaccination and Seeking Medical Care for All Diseases”, and urged youth to adopt a proactive role in the fight against HIV/AIDS, especially in protecting the girl child.
Hajjat called on men to lead by example in upholding abstinence, fidelity, and condom use. “His Excellency has been a champion in protecting girl children against HIV/AIDS, and we must follow his lead,” she said. “If we protect ourselves, we protect our families and communities.”
The Chief Muzzukulu, as she is profoundly known, encouraged youth to turn the coronation celebrations into a moment of national resolve by reaffirming commitments to health, education, and positive living.
“As we join the Kabaka in celebration, let’s reaffirm our commitment to health, education, and community well-being. By supporting this coronation, we’re amplifying the message of hope, resilience, and determination,” she emphasized.
Legacy of a Renewed Throne
Kabaka Muwenda Mutebi II was crowned at the ancient Naggalabi coronation site on 31 July 1993, following the return of traditional monarchies to Uganda after their abolition in 1967. The coronation at the historic Naggalabi Buddo hill symbolized the restoration of Buganda’s cultural institutions and the reign of the kingdom’s 36th monarch.
Since then, each 31st July is celebrated across Buganda with cultural performances, prayers, and community events, often held at Lubiri, the royal palace in Mengo. The jubilees bring together Baganda from every county, diaspora members, and dignitaries, underscoring unity across generations.
The 32nd coronation anniversary is set for 31 July 2025, with activities planned at Kibuli Mosque. As part of lead-up festivities, there will be youth performances and community development activities under the theme “Men Championing the Fight Against HIV/AIDS to Protect the Girlchild.”
Namaylo concluded her message with blessings for all national leaders, saying, “Long live the Kabaka, Long live His Excellency, Long live Mama Janet, Long live the Nabagereka. May our collective efforts bring a brighter, healthier future for all.”
