Kampala, Uganda: Uganda’s Local Organising Committee (LOC) has announced a fully digital ticketing system, phasing out paper tickets for all TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 matches to be hosted at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
Uganda, co-hosting the continental football tournament alongside Kenya and Tanzania, will stage 12 matches at the newly refurbished 32,000-seater Namboole, hosting Group C fixtures which feature Uganda, Algeria, Niger, Guinea, and South Africa, and knockout rounds of a quarter-final, semi-final, and the third-place playoff.
The CHAN 2024 tournament runs from August 2 to August 30. Uganda’s opening fixture is slated for August 4 against Algeria at 8:00 p.m., following the group clash between Niger and Guinea at 4pm.
Speaking to journalists at the Uganda Media Centre on Wednesday, Dr. Dennis K. Mugimba, the Chairperson of the LOC’s Communications and Signage Sub-Committee, confirmed that no physical tickets will be sold. All ticket purchases must be made digitally via CAF’s official ticketing platform or by scanning a QR code provided through partner channels.
“We want every Ugandan who desires to experience this historic football event at Namboole to have the opportunity,” said Dr. Mugimba, emphasizing the LOC’s focus on affordability and accessibility.
Ticket payments can be made using MTN MoMo, Airtel Money, or bank cards, with prices structured as follows: Ordinary: UGX 10,000, Silver: UGX 30,000, and Premium: UGX 50,000
Each ticket, according to officials, grants the holder access to all matches on a particular day, but fans will not be allowed to re-enter the stadium once their ticket has been scanned.
To bolster nationwide fan engagement, the LOC has allocated UGX 1 billion to FUFA for a sweeping publicity campaign using radio, television, digital platforms, and grassroots mobilization.
With just days to kick off, LOC officials are expected to release further updates regarding team arrivals, logistics, and venue readiness.
