Kampala, Uganda: The Uganda Police Force has declared a firm crackdown on crime and disruptive behavior ahead of the CHAN 2024 Group C fixtures set to be hosted at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

Addressing journalists at the Uganda Media Centre on Wednesday morning, Uganda Police spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke said the Force, in collaboration with sister security agencies, has deployed a multi-agency security operation to ensure the safety of all match-goers, athletes, and foreign delegations during the tournament period.

“This is not just a football event; it is a national moment of pride and international focus. But we are equally aware that such events can attract opportunistic criminals. Let it be known: we shall act decisively against any disruptive or criminal activity,” ACP Kituuma warned.

Uganda, alongside Kenya and Tanzania, will co-host the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024), with Uganda staging 12 matches at Namboole, including Group C teams, Uganda, Algeria, Niger, Guinea, and South Africa, and selected knockout rounds.

Kituuma outlined that the joint security deployment will cover all training facilities, team hotels, match venues, fan zones, and major access routes. He further cautioned the public against indulging in ticket fraud, impersonation, and any attempt to enter stadium zones using forged passes, saying undercover personnel and CCTV surveillance systems will be active throughout the event.

“Tight security measures are in place, and there will be no leniency. Any wrongdoer caught will face the full extent of the law. Criminals, be warned, our eyes are everywhere,” he stressed.

The police spokesperson also urged all fans and residents to cooperate with security officers, follow stadium guidelines, and promptly report suspicious activity, reaffirming that safety remains central to the success of Uganda’s first-ever hosting of CHAN matches.

Uganda’s Local Organising Committee (LOC) has already digitized the ticketing system, and thousands of fans are expected to turn up for the games, marking a major milestone for the country’s football and international reputation.
