Kampala, Uganda: Uganda’s Denis Onyango, Kenya’s Victor Wanyama, and Tanzania’s Mrisho Ngasa have featured in the official unveiling of the new trophy for the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN), PAMOJA 2024, in a historic moment celebrating East Africa’s co-hosting of the continental tournament.
The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) on Friday revealed the newly designed CHAN trophy through a video showcase starring the three celebrated football icons from the host nations. The new trophy comes as the PAMOJA 2024 tournament prepares to kick off from August 2 to 30, co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
CAF said the inclusion of Onyango, Wanyama, and Mrisho is a deliberate nod to the football heritage of the region and a celebration of the pan-African identity embedded in CHAN’s rebrand.
Crafted in a sleek, modern blend of gold and silver, the trophy features 54 encircling lines—each representing a CAF member association—and a central African map as its core design. CAF says the new look embodies unity, diversity, and the forward momentum of African football.
“The TotalEnergies CAF CHAN, PAMOJA 2024 trophy stands as a bold symbol of the competition’s evolution and its enduring contribution to the growth of football on the continent,” the football body said in a statement.
The trophy reveal is part of a broader branding overhaul of the CHAN tournament, which CAF says is aimed at highlighting African excellence, culture, and footballing pride.
The three legends appeared in a video released online by CAF, with Onyango representing Uganda’s legacy in goalkeeping, Wanyama as Kenya’s most successful modern midfielder, and Mrisho Ngasa as one of Tanzania’s top football exports.
Uganda is currently finalizing logistical and venue readiness for its share of the tournament, with Namboole Stadium expected to be a key venue after its recent renovation.
