Namboole, Uganda: The high-stakes CHAN 2024 Group C duel between Uganda and Algeria has kicked off at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, with both naming strong starting lineups for the promising clash.

Uganda Cranes head coach Morley Byekwaso named captain Allan Okello in the starting XI, leading a side determined to make history on home soil. Okello, who is featuring in his maiden CHAN tournament, is joined in midfield by Enock Ssebagala and Patrick Kakande.

The Cranes are relying on the experience of goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa between the posts, with a backline composed of Arnold Odong, Gideon Odongo, Gavin Mugweri Kizito, and Rogers Torach.

Jude Ssemugabi, Emmanuel Anyama, and Joel Sserunjogi make up a competitive midfield engine, adding an extra bite in the attack.

Meanwhile, Algeria’s head coach, Madjid Bougherra, has fielded a strong side led by captain Ayoub Ghezzala, with Zakaria Bouhalfaya guarding the goal. The North African giants are looking to their disciplined backline of Adem Alilet, Ilyesi Cheti, and Mohammed Halaimia to contain Uganda’s home advantage.

Uganda is seeking its first-ever progression past the group stage, while Algeria is aiming to assert continental dominance after finishing as runners-up in the 2022 edition.

Kick-off is already underway under the lights at the refurbished Mandela National Stadium.
